Date:  Friday, February 12, 2021

Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.

The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:

Cadet Drum Major Charlie Byrd is a third-year cadet in Alpha Company. He is a boarding student from Fredericksburg, VA. Cadet Byrd is a first-year member of the band and has taken initiative in developing the younger cadets in band. He has refined his leadership and mentoring skills and is helping produce measurable improvement in his fellow FUMA cadets. Cadet Byrd currently has high marks in COL Campbell's AP Comparative Government class. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Byrd!

Cadet Staff Sergeant Dominic Julius is a second-year cadet in Bravo Company. He is a boarding student from Philadelphia, PA. He is the Bravo Company Activities Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) and he also plays on the Prep Football and Prep Basketball teams. This past weekend, Cadet Julius won our Super Bowl raffle, and received a prize box filled with delicious snacks and homemade goodies. Demonstrating the kind of thoughtfulness and generosity typical of our best FUMA cadets, he shared his winnings with numerous other cadets who were watching the Super Bowl in the Social Center. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Julius!

Cadet Ethan Schroyer is a first-year cadet in Bravo Company. He is a boarding student from Wilmington, DE. Cadet Schroyer was recently selected for the role of Squad Leader as he continuously sets the example and displays outstanding professionalism. He has received top honors in academics all year and currently has highest marks in the Honors Western Civilization course. Academically, he is ranked in the top of his class. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Schroyer.

MAJ Alex Grant is recognized for voluntarily teaching an independent study class, Elements of Construction, to a group of cadets after hours while overseeing various projects in multiple buildings/areas around campus. He also assisted with setting up our Social Center to live stream the 'Big Game' this past Sunday for our cadets. Bravo Zulu, MAJ Grant!

MAJ David Wallace is a veteran and career law enforcement officer turned teacher. MAJ Wallace continues to grow and excel in the classroom. While his work could be commended each and every week, his hard work and dedication to the classroom and FUMA's mission has been especially evident these last few weeks. Bravo Zulu, MAJ. Wallace!

Go FUMA!
