Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.
The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:
Cadet Private Isaac Lewis is a first year cadet in Alpha Company. He is currently a day student from Bremo Bluff, VA. Cadet Lewis led Alpha Company to defeat Bravo Company during the Corps Activity Day dodgeball tournament. He single-handedly eliminated 23 competitors and had 8 catches, securing their win. Cadet Lewis also earned high marks in Coach Bodine’s Algebra 1 class. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Lewis!
Cadet Second Lieutenant Jackson Manglicmot is a sixth year cadet in Bravo Company. He is currently a day student from Palmyra, VA. Cadet Manglicmot is the Bravo Company Public Affairs Officer and Junior Prep Basketball Team Manager. He consistently volunteers to be of service and strives to improve all aspects of Fork Union and Bravo Company. This week, he assisted LTC Sidwell with daily administrative tasks (i.e. Room Inspection Reports, Personal Inspection Reports, Daily Temperature Check Log sheets, etc.). Academically, Cadet Manglicmot is in the top of his senior class. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Manglicmot!
Cadet First Lieutenant Sa’Eed Dasher is a third year cadet. Cadet Dasher is a returning boarding student from Lancaster, CA. He was given a new billet as Platoon Leader for Charlie 3rd Platoon. He has demonstrated firmness and fairness with his cadets and is respected by both subordinates and peers for his dedication to duty, specifically, due to the impact he has made within the Platoon. He aspires to attend a military academy upon graduation from FUMA and plans on a career in one of our military branches. He is also an all-season runner on the track team and maintains highest honors in Academics. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Dasher!
Mrs. Kim Shaver, our Advancement Coordinator is recognized for successfully preparing and sending out all re-enrollment packages to our families. This involved the creation of the individual letters and instruction sheets, but also extensive work with our new database provider. Kim was also instrumental in the enrollment of eight new cadets yesterday, the highest Term 4 entry in over ten years. Bravo Zulu, Kim Shaver!
Mr. Warren Whitworth, Director of Maintenance and his staff worked throughout the night Saturday preparing for and during the day Sunday clearing our roads and pathways of the 8 inches of snow that fell. Thanks to their hard work, cadets and staff/faculty were able to safely make their way around campus and to the Dining Hall for meals. Bravo Zulu, Warren Whitworth and team!
Ms. Nicole Hackenberg, CSM Catherine Garcia, Ms. Jen Schnelle, and Mrs. Kelsey Hill: Over the last few months, these amazing members of our faculty have been working after hours to realign and update the scope and sequence of our Upper School English curriculum.
