Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.
The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:
Cadet Private Pierce Ethan Shedeck is a junior and first-year cadet in Alpha Company. He is a boarding student from Fairfax, Virginia. During Super Bowl weekend, Cadet Shedeck volunteered to assist in the Social Center for an exclusive event. He returned the next morning to finish cleaning the social center to ensure that it would be available to students later that day. Not only did he clean up the immediate area, but he washed the dishes and returned them to the Dining Hall. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Shedeck!
Cadet Second Lieutenant Charles Campbell is a junior and second-year cadet in Bravo Company. He is a boarding student from Arlington, Virginia, and Platoon Leader. He continuously strives to set a positive example for others to emulate. This past weekend, he volunteered to help set up for the Super Bowl festivities and cleaned up afterward. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Campbell!
Cadet Sergeant First Class Diego Serrano is a sophomore and second-year cadet in Charlie Company. He is a boarding student from Naucalpan, Mexico, and 3rd Floor Platoon Sergeant. Last weekend, Cadet Serrano was asked to take on the role of acting First Sergeant for several accountability formations on a leave weekend. His willingness and sense of duty were outstanding. He successfully managed the company and provided oversight for the cadets that were on campus. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Serrano!
Cadet Second Lieutenant Jackson Pretus is a junior and a third-year cadet who serves on the Battalion Staff. He is a day student from Charlottesville, Virginia, and a varsity athlete on the Track and Field team. Over the past several months, Cadet Pretus has volunteered to deliver opening prayers and several devotions to the Corps of Cadets at the start of the day. This week, he delivered an outstanding and inspiring devotion about God and optimism. He works hard to keep himself and others bright and cheerful every day, bringing out the best in those around him. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Pretus!
MAJ Mark Shuman, Admissions Counselor, travelled to Serbia and Germany this week on behalf of the Admissions office to recruit future FUMA cadets. He met with prospective students and educational consultants. In addition to his busy week of traveling, he has also volunteered his Sunday to take a group of cadets skiing at the Snowplex, in Lynchburg, VA. Bravo Zulu, MAJ Shuman!
Go FUMA!
