Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.
The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:
Sergeant Tzu-Heng Hung is a junior and a first-year cadet in Alpha Company. He is a boarding student from Tainan City, Taiwan, in Scuba Club, and has recently joined the Airsoft Rifle Club. Cadet Hung excels in his academic work and has spoken with his TAC officer about enlisting in the military after graduating. He most recently signed up to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test to determine his qualifications and options for joining the United States Military. Since his arrival at Fork Union, he has displayed the traits and characteristics of a true leader, recently being promoted to Sergeant for 3rd Platoon in his company. Cadet Hung is known for taking initiative to complete tasks that need to be done, while continuously working on self-improvement. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Hung!
Captain Michael Luce is a senior and a fourth-year cadet in Bravo Company. He is a boarding student from Woodford, Virginia, and the Company Commander for his company. He continuously strives to set the example for others to emulate. Last week, he competed in a Super Spartan Obstacle Race. This race was over 8 miles and had 29 different obstacles. Cadet Luce finished the race in 1 hour and 20 minutes and placed 2nd in his age group overall. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Luce!
Sergeant Iker Serrano is an eighth grader and a first-year cadet in Charlie Company. He is a boarding student from Naucalpan, Mexico, and is Squad Leader, which is one of the toughest duties within the corps. He was recently recognized as the most improved “drill” cadet within his company. He has spent countless hours working on drill movements so he can be a more effective role model for his squad. He continuously maintains a positive mental attitude and is making a significant impact on the seventh-grade class. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Serrano!
Mrs. Agnes Davis has been working tirelessly to help with the renovation of Flag Hall. Starting her day before many of the boys are even awake, she is helping clean up the inside of our Band Hall in an effort to have it ready for the boys when they return from Christmas Break. Bravo Zulu, Mrs. Davis!
