An exciting year could be shaping up for Fork Union Track and Cross Country. The Cross Country team figures to be competitive again after finishing second in the Prep League a year ago and cracking the top five at the State Meet. Leading the way will be defending State Champ Alex Lomong. Julian Yescas was the top ninth grader a year ago and should be ready to contend for All-State honors. A couple of newcomers to the team in Matthew Abrahams and Blake Wishard could make FUMA a contender.
Though super standout Drake Davis has moved on to another school, the Blue Devils will still be solid with returners Levord Burns and Romello Blanton– Wade. Burns made considerable improvements in the hurdles last year and Blanton-Wade produced a stunning win in the state triple jump. Senior Liam O’Brien will look to get the most out of Cross Country to better expand his resume in the winter and spring. Logan Justice was fantastic on relays last year and the rising sophomore will be a force in the individual events. Lastly, don’t be surprised if senior Alex Lomong executes an assault on the school record board. 2015-2016 will be exciting!
